Hamilton Secondary College

Hamilton Secondary College is located in Mitchell Park, one of Adelaide’s inner southern suburbs, just 11 kilometers from the city center and well connected to public transportation. Nearby are Flinders University, the Tonsley Innovation Precinct, Marion Shopping Center, an Olympic-standard swimming center, and the beach.

Hamilton Secondary College is a school specializing in STEM subjects (science, technology, engineering, and math) with exciting subject-specific facilities, including a STEM innovation wing, the Mission To Mars project, and a planetarium. A new performing arts center has recently been established at the school for students interested in music, dance, and theater.

The college participates in the international Space School program and has facilities worth AUD 5 million, including a 40-meter room with a simulated Martian crater and landscape. In this room, space scenarios can be reenacted in role-playing games. Students gain real-world space experience, including mission briefings, flight control, and simulated space exploration on the surface of Mars. The program’s partners include NASA, the European Space Agency (ESA), and the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency.

This ties in well with the subject Aerospace Studies and Satellites, which focuses on aerospace and satellites. Here, students can engage in research-based learning and develop an understanding of aerospace concepts and satellite communications in practice. The two main areas of focus are aerodynamics (flight in the atmosphere) and astrodynamics (flight in space) as well as space communication.

In the area of sports, there is an AFL Girls Academy. This offers an introduction to Aussie Rules Football, one of the most popular sports for girls in Australia, with a fun and challenging program.
