Ocean View College is located in Taperoo on the Lefevre Peninsula, approximately 15 km northwest of Adelaide city center. It is 700 meters from the beach and just 800 meters from Taperoo Railway Station. The train takes 28 minutes to reach the center of Adelaide.
In recent years, many of the facilities at Ocean View College have been modernized, including a $3 million renovation of the STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) facilities. This has provided students with state-of-the-art learning spaces. The school is currently constructing a new building for performing arts (theater and music) and renovating the art rooms, including the installation of a digital studio.
Ocean View College has an excellent Outdoor Education Specialist Program, which is divided into land and water areas.
As part of the Outdoor Education Land Journeys, students take a three-day mountain bike tour to Mt Remarkable and a two-day tour through the Kuitpo Forest with hiking and orienteering during the semester. They acquire skills in bushcraft, outdoor camping, survival techniques, planning, risk assessment, teamwork, and environmental and nature conservation. Practical activities include bushwalking, orienteering, navigation, rock climbing, and mountain biking.
The Outdoor Education Aquatic Journeys program includes two three-day camps on the water. A wide range of practical activities at the Port Vincent Aquatic Centre and Katarapko Creek on the Murray River include kayaking, surfing, sailing, fishing, windsurfing, snorkeling, and paddle boarding.
This outdoor education program also includes week-long expeditions to destinations such as Kangaroo Island, Yorke Peninsula, and the Flinders Ranges.
