Newcastle High School

Newcastle High School is a large, inclusive, and diverse comprehensive school in the center of Newcastle, yet just 1.5 km from the beach.

Newcastle High School offers a varied curriculum, with senior school lessons in many subjects complemented by a range of excursions and visits to related institutions. In Creative and Performing Arts, for example, a variety of galleries and museums are on the program, while students in Design and Photography take part in several competitions such as the Moran Photographic Prize and the Adobe Design Awards. Participants in PDHPE Sport and Lifestyle and Recreation Studies visit various gyms and health centers and attend workshops and coaching sessions with sports specialists.

There is also a wide range of extracurricular activities on offer: students participate with great success in sports competitions, cultural events, artistic projects, and public performances. In this way, the school promotes talent holistically and strengthens the self-confidence of each individual.

Newcastle High School is currently undergoing extensive renovation to meet the needs of a growing student body in the future. Since 2024, the following have been built, among other things:

• a new three-story learning center with a modern library, cafeteria, and covered outdoor area
• new science laboratories, classrooms for catering and general subjects
• a spacious multi-purpose hall with a sports area, stage, and flexible learning spaces
• a central student center, a new entrance area, and
• the loving preservation of historic school buildings, which contribute to the school’s special charm.
